We're here for you
Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. This abuse can take many forms, including:
- Physical Abuse: Hitting, slapping, shoving, or other physical harm
- Emotional Abuse: Insults, threats, humiliation, or constant criticism
- Sexual Abuse: Coercing or attempting to coerce any sexual contact without consent
- Economic Abuse: Controlling finances, withholding money, or preventing a partner from working
- Psychological Abuse: Intimidation, isolation, or manipulation
Domestic violence can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status. It often involves an imbalance of power where the abuser uses various tactics to control and dominate their partner. Common signs of an abusive relationship include:
- Name-calling, insults, or put-downs
- Preventing you from seeing family or friends
- Controlling your finances or daily activities
- Jealousy or possessiveness
- Threats of violence or actual physical harm
